An example of modernist design is the Futura typeface by Paul Renner in 1927. Classic modernist design and typeface. Function before form, not fussy and does the job, with a lack of "personality" to it - a lack of individuality or expression of the artist, in the work.
An example of postmodernist design comes from the "franz Ferdinand" album cover, produced by Rick Costey (i think) and Franz Ferdinand for their debut album. I chose this simply because it's a reaction to modernism, and references it, just what postmodernism is - a reaction to modernism. Modelled on Alexander Rodchenkos portrait of Lilya Brik in 1924. Produced in 2005.
